Stromboli: the landscape as matter

Stromboli: the landscape as matter

The centre of the Earth beats with open heart. Rivers of ochre and gold lava pour onto the ground leaving behind them furrows of black stone.

It is in this mineral setting that Stromboli is anchored, the first part of the new triptych of Ateliers Berger, unveiled in February 2023.

An exceptional work, the result of the savoir faire of the Ateliers and experiments on matter.

In the laboratory of creation, pigments are assembled in subtle combinations of colours and the light reveals unexplored textures and volumes. It is sometimes necessary to repeat the stroke several times before finding the exact gesture or right posture. The process is carried out in synergy with time, giving rhythm to the inspiration and production. This attention to detail and perfection is adopted for all projects, from luxury boutique décor to paper marquetry.

Born from the contemplation of nature, Stromboli is a tribute to the works of the Earth. Geysers of fire, volcanoes pour their magma torrents over their slopes, like a supreme hymn to the origins of matter. Didn't our ancestors interpret volcanic eruptions as divine manifestations?

Light. Warmth. Life. Fire that creates and undoes.

It is this sacred fire that guides the artisan's gesture. The sketch comes to life in the movements of his hand, obeying some invisible ritual transmitted from generation to generation. Little by little the white sheet is covered with the strata of the matter, like sediments creating a landscape over the millennia.

The hand stops. The man steps aside and grabs a fragment.

The fragment of an island in Italy.

A rumble is heard in the distance. Is the volcano coming back to life?
