A Look Back at JEMA 2025 – Immersion in the World of Ateliers Berger

Diving into the Heart of the Material : Craftsmanship, Innovation, and Emotion
Two Days of Immersion and Encounters
On April 5th and 6th, we opened the doors of our workshop in Grenoble for the European Days of Craftsmanship (JEMA). Two intense and inspiring days where art lovers, amateurs, and professionals had the chance to explore our universe and meet our artisan painters.
This year, JEMA placed the spotlight on the theme “Bridges”. This guiding concept aligns perfectly with our approach: through paper marquetry and decorative painting, we explore the art of the line in all its forms. Whether it's a delicate sketch or a bold stroke, each creation establishes a link between tradition and innovation, between hand and material, between idea and space, and between the workshop and those who will one day experience these pieces.
An Immersive Visit to the Workshop
In a warm and inspiring atmosphere, visitors were invited to immerse themselves in our craftsmanship through a guided tour specially designed for the event. From discovering the materials to live demonstrations and discussions on the gestures that shape our custom-made décors, each step was an invitation to understand our unique approach to contemporary decor.
Every stop on the tour revealed a key aspect of our craft: the precision of the gesture, the choice of materials, and the attention to textures and light effects. These exchanges gave us the opportunity to share our vision of bespoke decor, at the intersection of craftsmanship, interior architecture, and emotion.
French Marquetry – When the paper becomes light
A hallmark technique of our workshop, French Marquetry – or paper marquetry – is much more than a skill: it is a signature. It embodies our way of transforming a simple material into a visual and sensory experience.
It all begins with the choice of paper, a living, organic material, sometimes raw, sometimes luxurious. Then come the precise gestures: cutting, sorting, arranging, assembling, until the fragments form a vibrant composition. Each piece plays with contrasts, reliefs, and light, giving birth to a decor that reveals itself differently depending on the angle or the lighting.
This technique allows us to merge the artisanal excellence inherited from traditional craftsmanship with contemporary aesthetic research. It reflects our desire to blend tradition and innovation, gesture and intuition, material and emotion.
And What’s Next? Exploring New Sensory Territories
Our workshop is also an exploration lab. Our Research & Development department works daily to push the boundaries of wall decor. We explore new textures, experiment with innovative combinations, and think about modular formats that can adapt to various spaces and uses.
Among the current projects:
- The development of new models incorporating material effects never before explored.
- Experiments with marquetry applied to furniture pieces to create coherent, immersive sets.
- A rethinking of the scenography for our presentations, to enhance our decor in increasingly sensory contexts.
Our goal is clear: to continue creating unique experiences where emotion arises from the material, and where each project becomes a work of art in its own right.
